Tips for a banger rally

Although budgets are tight on a banger rally, there is still a vast selection of cars available to choose from. the right car can be the difference between a good road trip and an amazing one!

Remember that you are going to be spending a massive amount of time in the car so first of all you want it to be comfortable. As much as you want to enjoy the twisty bits, sadly they will account for a mere fraction of the journey, and so you don't want to have a shattered spine and bleeding eardrums by the time you get there!

You also want to make it to the finish line relatively unscathed. So don't pick up a bag of bolts just because its super cheap, otherwise you will spend most of your trip at the side of the road and the other part in the garage while the rest of the teams blast through the mountains!

Manual or automatic, the choice is entirely your own. Although manual is more fun in the twisties, the foreign towns can be massively confusing and the last thing you want to do is worry about gears when your trying to decipher street names and negotiate 4 turn-off's at the same time! I struck lucky and managed to get a semi-automatic, which was a dream!

Learn basic maintenance, you don't want to be the guys who are stuck at the side of the road with no idea how to change a tyre. also learning where all the various fluids go as you will start to go through them a lot faster than normal with the extra mileage that you will be doing. On that note also make sure you are familiar with all the cars controls. the last thing you want to be doing is trying to find the fuel filler cap in a random petrol station!

Its wouldn't hurt to get the car checked over by a mechanic before you leave too. At least you will have peace of mind that you shouldn't expect anything major to go wrong.

Make sure you have all the extra spares that each country requires. most police forces will be extra stringent if they see a rally going through, so there is no point in trying to go without. Ebay will get you everything you need for b=very little cost, Even if you never need it.

HAVE FUN! It's a once in a lifetime experience! Respect the laws of the country and you shouldn't have any problems.

The tour has started!

Just so everyone is in the loop, the car has started its trip across the north east of Scotland, it left ASDA Inverness this morning and has now made its way to Elgin ASDA. The lovely community girls there are going to be raffling off a signed 2011 season Celtic shirt and a huge hamper of delicious Walkers Shortbread. Keep an eye out for the car! Don't forget, if you want to sponsor us then just head to http://www.justgiving.com/Scott-Wilson10 and also leave a comment on here or on my facebook page if you want to have your name on the car!

Vinyls are now on the car!

After many delays and dramas, the vinyl's finally went on the car this afternoon, Helpful hint, soapy water helps, just be sure to squeegee all the excess water out! i did a couple of test patches to see which would work best, (you can see them on the back quarter of the car.) The car has now been placed in the car park at the new ASDA Inverness, so if you want to go and have a look, it will be there all weekend. Darren will also be there if you want to get your name on it! For a donation you will have the opportunity to write a message or sign your name on the car. so go along and see what all the fuss is about! If you cant make it to Inverness, don't panic, it will be making its way across the north east of Scotland! if you cant make it then leave a comment on here and just donate via my just giving page! That is http://www.justgiving.com/Scott-Wilson10
Thanks guys!
